| Howdy, i'm pretty damn new to this bicycle arcrobatics you like to call 'Trials'. Just one calender month ago, I saw a movie of a guy defying the laws of gravity itself! He, hup ding, levitatated off God's good earth for what seemed more than natural. He whipped and lashed like a stallion on a spring day. I swear, my rooster never turned on the dirt like this! I just had to git me a slice of this pie!!!
I been savin all my dollars to build me a Trials machine, part by part, piece by piece. My Momma, God bless her, bought me a seat and post for my Birthday, so good people, i'm on my way!
Any advice you good folks good give, for my next Trials purchase, would be most welcome.
I'll be see'in ya'll. | |

| Anyway, on the riding and bike side of things I reccomend going along to a ride, introducing yourself, getting a shot on a few bikes and seeing how they feel. Have a nose through some of these video's, should help out slightly... see if you can "borrow" your sons bmx to do some practice! | |

| Middleageman! Good to have you here, dude. Are you still after a 24"? As Jamie said, See if any rides are happening near you, turn up, introduce yourself and say you're looking to get into trials, people will be more than happy to let you have a go on their bikes! Check the rides section on here (mainly in Scotland, these lads) Or trials-forum, find somewhere close to you and see if anyone's going on a bike you'd be interested in, then get in touch with them. I'm a bit of a trials nerd these days, so if you need help with anything, myself and the rest of the forum are here to help Oh and when you do get a bike, have a look on Trashzen (follow that link). The best website ever for learning from, Julien really has put a lot of effort into the tutorials. Matt | |

| Cheers Marvin The Martian! (were you once Skoze by the way?) Concerning bike choice, i'm still as confused as a cat in a bath. I know what the choices are, I know what their attributes are, I know I should try some out, but, living in the armpit of Wales, I've only ever seen one around here, a couple of weeks ago. The rider looked about 18 and i'm old enough to be his Dad! It isn't that easy to 'hang out' when your older, I don't wanna be known as our towns Gary Glitter!!!
In my head, I thought i'd buy a bike and practise in my back yard and alleyway. I work in fibreoptics, so can lay my hands on an unlimited amount of cable drums and pallets.I thought i'd build myself a private Trials paradise. I would then work on my skills for hours, days, months, maybe even years. Then, one day, I would emerge like a butterfly from a cocoon. A master of talent and grace- the Trials STIG!!!
Then I sobered up.

| Small world, im welsh my self, up north near Dolgellau, a wee place called Bontddu. I reckon you would prefer to be on a 24" or 26", I at 14 years of age feel like a muppet on a 20"
Dont be scared to ask the guy, just tell him your trying to start out in trials, he wont think anything of the sort, almost all trials riders are pleased to help there sport expand... Almost everywhere I go on mine the general public come up and ask millions of questions (most of them asking who stole my seat.) Saying that, almost every rider would be pleased to make conversation.
Anyway, from your posts on TF I dont really think you would get along on a mod too well, youve always ridden the larger bikes so I imagine you would quickly adapt too a 26 or 24" compared to a mod bike. Im sure Heath "oldtimer" on here would back me up.. when you start to age slightly you will like 26" more, able to get over most objects with relative ease whereas on a mod there would be quite an effort! It gives you much more room to move around on the bike too. Give Matt (marvin) a few days of riding his new steed and he will explain his full thoughts on a 24"
My 2p for now, Jamie | |

No problem, and yes, i was indeed As Jamie said, just be honest with the guy you saw riding and tell him about you wanting to start riding, i'm sure he'd be cool with giving you a quick blast on it! Also as young Jamie said, i've just finished building my 24", and so far i can safely say it's the best bike i've ever ridden. Need to give it a proper ride first, and i'll give you a bit of a review of 20", 24" and 26" (all from my point of view, of course) Matt | |
